What is Slug Slime?

Our legendary Slug Slime is a savory blend of toasted onions, garlic, poppy seeds, sesame seeds and salt. It is the perfect topping for any style bagel.

The history of Slug Slime goes back to the early days of Los Bagels, circa 1984 when our bagel shaper named Gwellen decide to make a batch of straight bagels.  Instead of rolling the dough into a circle, he laid it out in a strand.  Later that night, the bakers found these oddities, and decided to throw every bagel topping we have in the shop on them.

Los Bagels legendary Slug, only in the Redwoods of Humboldt County

As customers came in the next morning they were surpised and delighted to find the newly christened "Slug" bagels on top of the counter...aptly named "Slugs" after the banana slug, who thrives here in the redwood forests of northern California.
The Slug bagel was an instant favorite.  With its strong flavor, it created an immediate and devout following. Being straight, it is also less messy than a round bagel...please don't tell our other varieties!

Over time we kept getting requests from customers to shake the wire basket that the Slugs are put in after the bake, and grab the excess seeds that fall out...then sprinkle them on their bagel.
